Design Junction: Supporting Cultural Capital Competitiveness of Italian cultural capitals

Contemporary heritage system is composed by cultural capitals which are achieving a clear and recognizable status through innovative strategies mainly driven by design and focused on the system of urban structure, architecture, events and communication. The project focus on future competition landscape among European cultural capitals, trying to identify new potential systemic strategies driven by design.
Italian territory allows to think of a “cultural territorial network” taking advantage of the peculiar structure of Italy and creating connection between cities.
Milan and Turin are two of the main cultural capitals in north Italy and they are ideal poles to explore innovative strategies for creating a cultural system appealing for flows of foreign people looking for cultural experience and entertainment.
The aim of the project is to develop methodologies, tools, solutions for connecting these two cities involving their main museums and cultural institutions and proposing a “twin design strategy” supporting their cultural competition in Europe.
The competences required by the project come from cultural and exhibit design, communication design, history of art and architecture, ICT applied to cultural heritage, museology and museography, humanities.
